Oracle-integration licenses overview

To use the replication manager's Oracle-integration features with a given array, the replication manager
verifies that appropriate HP Oracle-integration licenses exist for that array.
For information on acquiring and installing Oracle-integration licenses, see the HP StorageWorks
Replication Solutions Manager administrator guide.
Oracle-integration licenses are verified during automatic and global refreshes. See
refreshing resources (automatic)
Oracle-integration license status is displayed in the GUI. See

Oracle-integration license policies

HP license policies determine how the replication manager interacts with resources that require HP
Oracle-integration licenses.
The following summarizes the policies.
Verification. License verification includes factors such as:
• Type of license
• Expiration date (if any)
• Capacity range (amount of storage)
Multi-array resources. If an Oracle resource such as a database or tablespace is comprised of
virtual disks on two or more arrays, each array must have an HP Oracle-integration license.
GUI actions. Some GUI actions may be disabled if an applicable HP license is not verified.
Disabled actions appear in gray and cannot be selected. A tooltip indicates why the action
cannot be performed. See tooltips.
For example, if you select an Oracle database and the Replicate Database (Snapclone) action
is disabled, it can be because the storage system that contains the database does not have an
appropriate license.
Job commands. Some job commands may not be executed if an applicable HP license is not
verified when a job is run. An event in the job log indicates the command did not execute due
to a licensing issue.
For example, if a CreateHostVolumesUsingRepository command in a job did not execute when
the job was run, it may be because a storage system on which the database is located did not
have an HP Oracle-integration license.
IMPORTANT:
HP recommends that you include validation commands in jobs and perform validation tests to prevent or
minimize the effect of license-related issues at run time.

Oracle resource guidelines

Only permanent and undo tablespaces can be replicated using the replication manager
application-integration features. Temporary tablespaces cannot be replicated. See tablespaces.
When a GUI replication action is used with a database, its permanent and undo tablespaces are
replicated but its temporary tablespaces are not.
When a job is created to replicate tablespaces, only permanent and undo tablespaces are
available for selection in the replication commands. If you specify a temporary tablespace by
typing an entry, the job can be saved and run, but will fail at the replication step involving the
virtual disks that comprise the temporary tablespace.
