DC-Management support

The following table lists the general configuration requirements for using DC-Management.
154
Host volumes
Operations available
Extend or shrink a host volume or the
underlying virtual disk.
Non-LVM host volumes using the
Veritas file system can be resized
using the fsadm command if
online JFS is available, and the
extendfs command if online JFS
is not available.
LVM host volumes can be extended
in two steps. First, the volume
group and logical volume has to
be extended using vgmodify and
other LVM commands. Then the file
system is extended using the fsadm
command if online JFS is available,
and the extendfs command if
online JFS is not available.
See the following website for information
on resizing disks:

ch03s04.html
Extend (Windows 2003 and Windows
Server 2008) or shrink (Windows
Server 2008) a host volume file system
using Windows Disk Manager.
Extend or shrink a virtual disk presented
to a host.
Comments
Provides full resizing capability and
integration with the operating system.
With a single step you can resize
the file system and the underlying
virtual disk simultaneously, simplifying
capacity management.
Command View EVA must be used
to manually resize the underlying
virtual disks before (extend) or after
(shink) resizing the file system. The
storage stack on the host needs to
be made aware of the change in
the virtual disk's capacity.
Before extending virtual disks on the
EVA, care must be taken to ensure
that the additional capacity can be
used by the host file system. This
can be a problem if the firmware
version does not allow shrinking
of the virtual disk to recover the
storage. DC-Management prevents
such accidental grow of virtual
disks by validating the host volume
structure and blocking the operation
if necessary.
Extra care must be taken to not
shrink a host volume beyond the file
system allocated boundaries.
Does not resize the underlying
virtual disk. It may be necessary to
manually resize the virtual disk to
accommodate the file system resize
you wish to perform.

the file system manually.
CAUTION:
Care must be taken to not shrink a
virtual disk beyond the boundaries
of usage by either file systems or
volume/partition managers on the
host.
