Sound Board

Some systems come with a Creative Labs AWE64D sound board in an
expansion slot. The board incorporates the EMU
AudioHQ and Creative WaveSynth/WG software for 32-voice polyphony for
wave table audio. Sondius
customized musical instruments and sound effects. Clear, realistic, three-
dimensional sound is supported with the Creative 3D Stereo Enhancement
technology.
Specifications for the sound board are given in Section 10, "Specifications."

Local Area Network

All systems come with an onboard local area network (LAN) capability (3COM
LAN). Through the RJ-45 LAN connector on the system board and the Intel
82558 PCI LAN controller, the workstation can be connected to another
computer, to a LAN, or to the Internet. Systems also have remote startup
capability from a server with "Wake-On LAN" technology.
Specifications for the LAN are given in Section 10, "Specifications."

SCSI Adapter

The system board includes an embedded dual-function, PCI SCSI host adapter,
providing two independent SCSI controllers that share a single PCI bus master
interface. Internally, each controller is identical, capable of operations using
either 8- or 16-bit SCSI providing 10 MB/s (Fast-10) or 20 MB/s (Fast-20)
throughput, or 20 MB/s (Ultra) or 40 MB/s (Ultra-wide) throughput. As
implemented on the system board, controller A attaches to a 68-pin 16-bit
(wide) SCSI connector interface capable of supporting a maximum of four 1-
inch high SCSI Ultra-wide hard disk drives or three 1.6-inch high SCSI Ultra-
wide hard disk drives. Controller B attaches to a 50-pin 8-bit (narrow) SCSI
connector interface capable of supporting three 5.25-inch removable media
devices.
The Symbios Configuration Utility eliminates the need to handle jumpers or
terminators while adding some peripherals. Configuration and terminator
settings are controlled via the keyboard (see "Symbios Configuration Utility" in
Section 2).

PC Adapter Device

Some systems come with a PC Adapter Device. The PC adapter provides twin
PC card slots, which support two Type I/II cards, or one Type I/II card and one
Type III. The adapter supports ISA Plug and Play, and allows cards of mixed
voltage to be used in the same system. PC cards can provide the system with
memory, storage, fax/modem capabilities, video capabilities, or a serial port
interface. The PC adapter driver enables full diskette drive or hard disk
emulation on flash cards compatible with all compression and PC-utilities
software.
