Contraindications
Moyamoya disease is the absolute contraindication for performing hyperventilation
test during EEG examination.
Relative contraindications for system application are:
cutaneous inflammatory diseases at the sites of electrode, sensor or stimulator
placement;
allergic reactions to components of liquids used to prepare a patient for a treatment
and to fix electrodes (conductive gels and pastes, abrasive paste, medical tape);
allergic reactions to silver compounds;
for functional test with photic stimulation: recent retinal detachment, post-operative
period of eye surgeries, keratitis, mydriasis;
for functional test with hyperventilation: recent subarachnoid haemorrhage, intra-
cranial hypertension, sickle-cell disease;
data on adverse effects at photic-, auditory-, pattern- or electrical stimulation in the
medical anamnesis records;
mental disorders accompanied by pronounced psychomotor agitation.
If the system is used with devices for magnetic stimulation, read carefully
the chapter about contraindications for use of such devices in the docu-
mentation supplied with the device.
Possible Side Effects
During the examinations with the use of the system the following side effects are pos-
sible in rare cases:
1. Skin irritation and allergic reactions to components of items used to prepare a pa-
tient for a treatment and to fix electrodes, silver compounds.
2. Transient hearing and visual impairments at long-term high-intensity stimulation of
corresponding sensory organs during acquisition of evoked potentials.
If the system is used with devices for magnetic stimulation, read carefully
the chapter about possible side effects stated in the documentation sup-
plied with the device.
