3.2.5 Biofeedback Therapy
The systems can be used to perform different biofeedback trainings. The target pa-
rameters include EEG rhythm indices, HR, respiratory rate, surface EMG, GSR, etc.
The trainings have predefined content (images, photos, games, films and music) to
ensure the biofeedback.
To perform biofeedback training, make the following steps:
1. Prepare a patient's skin and position the required electrodes and sensors.
To perform BFB training, position EEG electrodes and/or airflow sensors or chest and
abdominal respiratory effort sensors to estimate the respiratory rate, ECG electrodes
to assess HR and disposable adhesive electrodes to record EMG and GSR.
1) Use bridge or cup electrodes to record EEG (skin preparation and electrode
placement is done in accordance with section 3.2.1).
2) Use disposable adhesive electrodes to record surface EMG and GSR. Prior
to electrode placement degrease the patient's skin using an alcohol wipe.
3) Use airflow sensor, chest and abdominal respiratory effort sensor to estimate
the respiratory rate (the sensors are positioned in accordance with sec-
tion 3.2.3).
4) As a rule, ECG is recorded using 1 channel of digital system and disposable
electrodes with "button" clip, clamp ECG electrode or cup electrodes and cor-
responding lead cables. The ECG electrodes are placed as described in sec-
tion 3.2.1 of this manual.
2. Check electrode placement quality, perform the signal monitoring and acquisition
in accordance with section 3.2.1.
