3.2 Exams Performed Using Digital Systems
3.2.1 Routine EEG and LTM or Video EEG
Monitoring
With the use of Neuron-Spectrum.NET software the digital system can record, store
and analyze EEG during a routine EEG exam, LTM or video EEG monitoring. To per-
form an EEG exam, LTM or video EEG monitoring follow the steps below:
1. To perform a routine EEG exam, use cup or bridge EEG electrodes.
1) If bridge EEG electrodes are selected, soak their working surfaces in
the saline solution (Fig. 28) (see "EEG electrodes and accessories" tech-
nical manual).
Fig. 28. Bridge electrode soaking
Avoid saline solution ingress to an electrode contact clamp. Moisten only a
working surface!
2) Select the EEG helmet that best fits the patient's head and put it on a pa-
tient. Adjust the helmet size and shape using the straps.
3) Degrease a patient's skin prior to the electrode placement with an alcohol
wipe. To define electrode placement, use an appropriate electrode system.
The international 10-20 system of electrode placement (H. Jasper, 1957)
or 10-10 system (the modification of 10-20 system) is used more often. To
ensure precise distance measurements use a measuring tape (Fig. 29).
