Function of the AFB
AFB compensation adjustment
The amount of AFB compensation can be
adjusted with a "finger wheel" and adapted
to individual weight and various clothing.
Adjustments are easier to make when the
forearm is flexed!
The range of adjustments is limited by defi-
nite stops.
The mechanism is also protected by a slip
coupling.
The hydrodynamic damper of the AFB
mechanism is adjusted to counter-balance
the weight of the forearm plus terminal de-
vice and electric wrist.
Please be sure to stabilize the humeral
section of the prosthesis while testing the
joint functions.
Always keep the prosthesis in the fully flexed
position when putting it on or taking it off,
and when not in use.
Caution!
If the AFB compensation is set high and the
lock is released while the arm is in a hori-
zontal position, the arm can flex suddenly.
A sudden flexion of either the forearm or
humeral section may also occur while work-
ing with the prosthesis when it is taken off.
This may result in injury!
Instruct the patient about this danger!
