When the park i ng brake is set, it prevents the vehicle from
rolling away unintention ally.

Pull the parking brake lever all the way up .

Pull the parking brake lever up slightly
and
press the
release button at the same time ==> fi g. 66 - arrow-.

Keep the release butto n pressed and lower the park in g
brake==>& .
If you should drive off w ith the parking brake sti ll set , a warning tone
will sound and the fo llowing message wil l appear in the instrument
cluster to remind you to release the parking brake :
Parking brake is applied
The parking brake warning comes on on ly after you have driven for
longer than 3 seconds and faster than 3 mph (5 km/h) .
The parking brake warning light Brake (USA)/(Ci:» (CON) illuminates
when the parking brake is set and you switch on the ignition .

WARNING
Alwa ys release t he parking brake complet ely. A partially engaged
brake will overheat th e rear brakes, reduce t heir effecti veness and
cause excessive wea r. This could lead to brake failure and an acci-
dent .

Note
Only after the vehicle has come to comp lete st op, should you firmly
set the parking brake and move the gearshift lever into a gear. •
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling away, there are a
few things you should do.
- Stop t he vehicle using the brake peda l.

Set t he park ing brake firmly.
- Switch off the engine.

Turn the steering wheel so that if the vehic le should start t o rol l, it
