illuminated . This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
start -ups as long as t he malfunction
exists.
When the ma lfunction indicator is illuminated,
the system may not
be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions
may occur for a variety of reasons, including the
installation
of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the
veh icle that prevent the TPMS from f unctioning
properly. A lways
check the TPMS malfunction
tellta le after replacing one or more
tires or whee ls on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or
alternate tires and wheels al low the TPMS to continue to function
proper ly. •
Introduction
The tire pressure monitoring system monitors air pressure
in all four road wheels while the vehicle is moving .
As soon as the t ire pressure mon itoring system senses a significant
loss of air pressure in one or severa l tires, text messages and yel low
symbo ls appear in the instrument cluster display to alert t he driver.
The
(l)
warning light in the instrument
cluster comes on when the
t ire is significantly
unde rinflated
=>
page 39.
The warning li g ht
(l)
also illuminates in the case of a system
malfunction.
Be aware that tire pressure is also dependent on the temperature of
the tire . For every 18 °F (10 °C) increase in tire temperature, tire pres -
sure increases by about 1.5 psi (0.1 bar). The t i re warms up while t he
vehic le is moving and tire pressure rises . So you should adjust tire
pressure on ly when they are cold, when the tempe rature of the t ires
is roughly the same as the ambient air temperature.
In order to keep the tire pressure monitoring
system properly ca li-
brated, tire pressure on al l four tires should be checked at regular
interva ls.
The tire pressure is shown on t he label located on the driver's side
B-pillar (visible when the door is open).

The ti re pressures for two sets of whee ls/tires (e.g . w int er and
summer) are stored in your veh icle. You can switch between both
sets as many times as you wish wit hout re-initializing
the system .
Th e Tire Pressure Monitoring
System must be re-i nitialized by your
authorized Audi dealer if a new set of tires is used or the whee l elec-
t ronics were replaced.
&
WARNING
W hen the tire pressure monitoring system wa rning light is lit,
one or more of your t ires is signifi cantl y under-inflated . You should
stop and check your tire s as soon as possible, and inflat e them to
the proper pressure as indicat ed on the vehicle' s tire pressure
label
=>
page 211. Driving on a significantly under-inflated t ire
causes the tir e to overhe at and can lead to tire failure. Under- infla-
tion also is likely to impair the vehicle's handling and stopping
ability .
<£'
For the sake of the environment
Driving with under -inflated tires reduces fuel efficiency and tire
t read life.

Tips
Each tire should be checked month ly when the temperature of
the tires is about the same as amb ient air temperature and set to the
recommended
inflation pressure as specified on the tire pressure
label => page 211.
The tire pressure monitoring
system he lps the driver to keep an
eye on t ire pressures. But the dr iver st ill has the responsib ility f or
maintaining
the correct tire pressure.
Tire pressure must only be adjusted when the temperature of the
tires is about the same as ambient air temperature .
