Snow chains, which come into direct contac t with the wheel rim,
can scratch or damage it. Therefore, make sure that the snow chains
are suitably covered . Check the position of the snow chains after
driving a few yards and correct if necessary . Follow the instructions
from the snow chain manufacturer when doing so.
[ i ]
Tip s
Where snow chains are mandatory on certa in roads, this normal ly
also app lies to vehic les with All Wheel Drive . •
Wheel
bolts
Wheel bolts must always be tightened to the correct
torque.
The design of wheel bolts is matched to the facto ry inst alled r ims. If
different rims are fitted , the correct wheel bolts with the right length
and correctly shaped bolt heads m ust be used. This ensures that
whee ls are fitted securely and that the brake system functions
correctly.
In certain circumstances, you may not use whee l bo lts from a
different vehicle - even if it is the same model => page 230 .
&
WARNING
Improp erly t ightened or mainta ined w heel bolt s can become loose
causing loss of control , a collision and serious personal injury.
Always keep the wheel bolt s and the threads in th e w heel hubs
clean so the wh eel bolt s can turn easily and be properly tightened.
Never grease or oil the wheel bolts and the thre ads in th e wheel
hubs. They can become loose while driving if greased or oiled,
even if tighten ed to th e specified torque .
Only use whe el bolt s th at belong to the rim being inst alled.
Never use different wheel s bolt s on your vehicle.
&
WARNING (continu ed)
Alw ays maintain th e correct tightening torque for the wheel
bolts to reduce the risk of a w heel loss. If the tightening torq ue of
the w heel bolts is too low, the y can loosen and come out w hen the
vehicle is moving. If the tightening t orque is too high, the w heel
bolts and thre ads can be damaged and th e w heel can become
loose.

Note
The specified torque for t he wheel bolts is 90 ft lb (120 Nm) wit h a
tolerance of ± 7.4 ft lb( ± 10 Nm) . Torque whee l bolts diagona lly.
Af t er changing a wheel, the torque must be checked as soon as
possible with a torque wrench - preferably by an authori zed Audi
dea ler or qua lified workshop . •
Low aspect ratio tires
Your Audi is factory-equipped with low aspec t ratio tires. These tires
have been thorough ly tested and been selected specifically for your
model for their superb performance, road feel and hand ling under
a variety of driving condi t ions . Ask your autho rized Audi dea ler for
more details .
The low aspect rat io of these t ires is indicated by a numera l of 55 or
less in the tir e's size designation . The num eral represents the rat io
of the tire's sidewa ll height in relat ion to its tread width expressed
in percentage. Conventiona l tires have a height/width
ratio of 60 or
more.
The performance of low-aspect-ratio tires is particu larly sensitive to
improper inflation pressure. It is therefore i mpo rtant that low
aspect rat io t ires are inflated to the spec ified pressure and that the
inflation pressure is regularly checked and maintained. Tire pres -
sures shou ld be checked at least once a month and always before a
long trip => page 213, "Checking tire pressure".
