Tires and vehicle
load limits
There are limits to the amount of load or weight that any vehicle and
any t ire can carry. A vehicle t hat is overl o aded wil l not hand le well
and is more difficu lt to stop. Overloading can not only lead to loss
of ve hicle con t rol, b ut can also damage importa nt parts of t he
vehic le and can lead to sudden tire failure, inc luding a blowout and
sudden deflat ion t hat can cause the veh icle to crash.
Your safety and that of your passe ngers also depends on mak ing
sure that load limits are not exceeded . Vehicle load includes every -
body and everythi ng in and on the veh icle. These load lim its are
technica lly referred to as the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
("GVWR"l.
The "GVWR" includes the weight of the basic vehicle, all fac t ory
insta lled accessor ies, a full tank of f uel, o il, coo lant and other f luids
p lus maximum load. The maximum load includes t he number of
passengers that the vehicle is intended to carry ("seat ing capaci t y")
w it h an assu med wei g ht of 150 lbs (68 kg) f or each passe nge r at a
designated seating position and the total weight of any luggage in
t he veh ic le.
The Gross Axle Weight Rating ("GAWR") is the maximum load t hat
can be appl ied at each of t he veh icle's two axles.
The Gross Vehicle Weigh t Rating and the Gross Axle Weight Rating
are listed on the safety compliance sticker labe l located on the
dr iver's side B-pil lar. Your Audi has 2 seating positions in the front
for total seating capacity of 2. Each seating position has a safety belt
=>
pag e 118, "Saf ety belts".
The fact that there is an upper lim it to your ve hicle's Gross Vehicle
Weigh t Rating means tha t t he to tal we igh t of w hat ever is being
carried in the ve hicle is limited . The more passengers in the veh icle
or passengers who are heavier than the standard weights assumed
mean that less weight can be carried as luggage.
The tire pressure labe l on your Audi also lists the maximum
com bined weig ht of all of the occupants and luggage or ot her cargo
that the vehicle can carry . For the location of the label=> page 211,

WARNING
Overloading a vehicle can cause loss of vehicle control , a crash or
other accident , serious personal injury, and even death .
Carrying more weight than your vehicle w as designed to carry
will prevent the vehicle from handling properly and increase the
risk of the loss of vehicle control.
The brakes on a vehicle that has been overloaded may not be
able to stop the vehicle within a safe distance .
Tires on a vehicle that has been overloaded can fail suddenly,
including a blowout and sudden deflation , causing loss of control
and a crash. •
