If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light still does not come on and does
not stay on con t inuous ly (when the ignition is switched on),
take the child restraint off the front passenger seat and have the
airbag system inspected by your authorized Audi dealer. Do not
transport children w ithout a ch il d safety seat.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light shou ld NOT come on when the
ignition is on and an adul t is si tt ing i n a proper seat ing position on
the front passenger seat . If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
comes on and st ays on o r flashes for about 5 seconds whi le driving,
under these circumstances,
make sure that :
the adu lt on the front passenger seat is properly seated on the
cente r of the seat cush ion with his or her back up against the back-
rest and the backrest is not reclined ~ page 110, "Proper occupant
seating positions",
the adult is not taking weight off the seat by holding on to the
passenger ass ist hand le above t he front passenger door or
supporting
their weight on the armrest,
the safety be lt is be ing proper ly worn and that there is not a lot
of slack in the safety belt webbing,
accessory seat covers or cushions or other things that may cause
an incorrect reading or impression on the weight -sensing mat
under the upho lste ry of the seat have been removed from the front
passenger seat,
a safety be lt extender has not been left in the safety be lt latch for
the front passenger seat.
In addition to the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light in the center of the
instrument
pane l, the message PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF or
PASSENGER AIR BAG ON will br iefly appea r in the instru m ent cluster
display . This is to inform the driver of the current front passenger
airbag status . •
Important
safety
instructions
on monitoring
the Advanced
Airbag
System
&
WARNING
An airbag system that is not functioning properly cannot provide
supplement al protection in a front al crash.
If the airbag indicator light comes on, it mean s that there may
be something w rong w ith the Advanced Airb ag System. It is
possible that the airbag will infla t e when it is not supposed to, or
will not inflate when it should.
Have the airbag system inspected immediatel y by your autho -
rized Audi dealer.

WARNING
If the front airbag infl ate s, a child without a child restr aint , or in a
rearward -facing child safety seat , or in a forward -fac ing child
restraint th at has not been properl y in stalled w ill be ser iou sly
injured and can be killed .
Even th ough your vehi c le is equipped w ith an Ad van ced Airbag
System , make certain that all children , especially 12 years and
younger , alwa y s ride pr operly rest ra ined fo r their age and size .
Never install a rearward fa cing child safety seat on the front
pass enger seat unle ss the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light come s
on and stays o n. If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light doe s no t
come on and st ay, on the infl ati ng ai r bag w ill hit the child safet y
seat or infant carrier with great force and will sma sh the ch ild
safety seat and child again st the backre st , door or roof . Have the
airbag syst em in spected immedi ately by your authorized Audi
dealer.
A tight tether or other strap on a rearward-fac ing child restraint
att ac hed to the front pass enger seat ca n put to o mu ch pressure
on the w eight-sensing m at in the seat and register more weight
than is actu ally on the seat. The heavier weight regi stered can
