OPERATION
Models 8084/8084AD/8085 Closed Caption Encoder Manual
Select ModemD=disabled to configure the 8084(AD) to ignore
incoming phone calls. The device will hang up the modem (if
currently online) and configure the modem to auto answer off
when this item is selected.
Select ModemD=enabled to configure the 8084(AD) for a dial
up connection to the caption computer using the built-in modem.

is currently connected to a remote modem.

Configuring the Built-In Closed Caption Decoder

On earlier 8084 models without a dedicated DECODER pushbutton, two
Setup menu items are used to configure the operation of the built-in closed
caption decoder.
DECODER CHANNEL is used to select which channel (stream) the
decoder will display. The chart below shows the menu settings
to decode each of the channels.

The XDS decoder will display the following XDS packet types
simultaneously: Network Name, Network Call Letters, Program
Name, Program Type, Program Length, Time In Show and the
first four lines of the Program Description.
The VCHIP decoder can display all rating codes any of the
rating systems defined in standard EIA-744A. The two
undefined reserved rating systems will be displayed as "Other" if
present in the video. These rating systems and rating codes
are:
