AN OVERVIEW OF KEY AND DISPLAY FUNCTIONS

Throughout this manual SHIFT + indicates that you should hold down the
SHIFT key while pressing a second key.

The display area consists of a 16 digit alphanumeric display, six or eight
LED status indicators and an eight or ten pushbutton keypad, depending
on the model. The four possible front panel configurations are depicted in
Figure 3-1 to Figure 3-4.
A menu system provides a quick and simple method of configuring the
Closed Caption Encoder directly from the front panel. The keypad is used
to control the menu system, and to provide a global Keyer disable. When
the SHIFT key is held down, the meanings of some of the keys are
modified, gaining quick access to a wider variety of functions.
The remainder of section 3.1 gives an overview of the caption encoder
operation.
Sections 3.2 and following give detailed information on the
specific operations required to control the device.
