It connects to the telephone line by means of a standard jack called the USOC RJ11C and should be connected to the telephone network with a FCC compliant telephone cord and modular plug.

    807X caption encoder line with the latest advances in processor and memory architecture. The Model 8084 Digital Video Closed Caption Encoder provides a cost- effective method of encoding closed captions into the digital video bitstream. It has been designed to meet the needs of both television broadcast and post-production facilities.

    Text stream T2 is often reserved to carry URL data for WebTV applications. A text article software loader program is supplied on the CD that came with your 8084. It may be used to conveniently upload text articles for insertion into one of the text services.

AES/EBU: Informal name for a digital audio standard established jointly by the Audio Engineering Society and the European Broadcasting Union organizations.
  • Page 22 Models 8084/8084AD/8085 Closed Caption Encoder Manual CLIFF EFFECT: (also referred to as the ‘digital cliff’) This is a phenomenon found in digital video systems that describes the sudden deterioration of picture quality when doe to excessive bit errors, often caused by excessive cable lengths. The digital signal will be perfect even though one of its signal parameters is approaching or passing the specified limits.

    SDI IN. FAULT TALLY OUT: A BNC connector for output of a SMPTE 269M fault tally. The output will be open circuit when the 8084 is processing video normally. The output will be grounded when the unit is bypassed.

    Models 8084/8084AD/8085 Closed Caption Encoder Manual 3.1.2 Caption Keyer Control Group The 8084AD, 8085 and later 8084 caption encoder models have separate Field 1 and Field 2 caption keyer enable buttons (see section 3.1.2.1). The earlier 8084 encoders have a single global Caption On/Off button, which controls both Field 1 and Field 2 caption keyers (see section 3.1.2.2).

When the LED is flashing, there is a problem such as incorrect video standard, or the video is of poor quality. The 8084AD may still be able to key captions onto poor quality analog video, depending on the severity of the problems.

    The current local time display shows the local time of the 23:59:59 8084’s real time clock. The clock can be set from the serial port or using the optional LTC input. Please note that the encoder does not automatically change its clock for Daylight Saving Time.

    UPSTREAM SOURCE must be set to that video source for the device to work properly. 3.2.7 Inserting “V-Chip” Ratings Locally (8084 and 8084AD) The operator may specify a “V-Chip” XDS program rating packet from the front panel menu system. The encoder may be configured to insert a specified program rating locally, without any computer connection.

Data integrity and signal quality of the captioned signal may be verified using the test message.
