If certain accented and special characters do not display correctly, this is
likely the fault of the caption decoder being used to display the captions.
The optional caption decoder in the 8074 does not display some accented
and special characters. The decoder in the 8084 and 8084AD do display
the entire captioning character set.
Certain teleprompter software packages have been known to not encode
accented characters correctly. Please contact your software provider for
possible updates before contacting Evertz technical support.

6.1.11 My 8084AD sometimes drops or repeats caption characters.

If you are captioning to both analog and digital video simultaneously with
the 8084AD, both video feeds must have frame-locked timing. The caption
data being encoded is not deeply buffered in memory. This minimizes the
delay introduced when inserting captions, but makes the device intolerant
to video timing differences between the two video feeds. The feed that is
not selected as the UPSTREAM SOURCE is free running, and will
occasionally drop or repeat caption characters if the two feeds are not
externally synchronized.

6.1.12 The Caption Shift Up GPI is not working properly.

The Caption Shift Up GPI on parallel remote control pin 8 moves caption
text from rows 12 through 15 and repositions them to rows 1 through 4. It
does this by translating the Preamble Address Codes (PACs) embedded in
the caption data. A PAC control code is typically sent before each new line
of text to position the display cursor. After the GPI has been activated,
captions will not shift up until a new PAC is transmitted. A caption that is
already displayed on the screen will not shift up when the GPI is activated.
Some real-time captioning software that uses roll-up captions does not
encode PACs. There may be options in your captioning software to remedy
this situation. If a show has been pre-captioned using roll-up captions
without PACs, the Caption Shift Up GPI will be ineffective on this program
material. There is presently no solution for this particular problem.

6.1.13 Why has the Keyer Disable GPI stopped working?

Older versions of 8084 firmware implemented two separate keyer disable
GPIs that behaved slightly differently. The GPI on parallel remote control
pin 8 has been replaced with the Caption Shift Up GPI. The remaining
keyer disable GPI on pin 7 is now configurable for either mode using a DIP
switch setting. If you have recently upgraded your 8084 firmware, or
replaced a unit in your installation, you may need to modify the cable that
connects to the parallel remote control port on the caption encoder.
Depending on your application, you may also need to open the caption
encoder to change the DIP switch setting.
