15.2 SIMATIC Drive Controller firmware update
Program card including firmware update files
If you want to deliver your project with firmware validated by you, for example, you can store
the program data and firmware update files together on the memory card. Your customers
then have the option of changing CPU and SINAMICS Integrated to exactly that firmware
version.
Note
Please note that, depending on the tool used (for example STEP 7, Web server), the firmware
update files may also be deleted if you reset to "Program card". Therefore, use the FUNCT
button (function 3) or change the job file S7_JOB.S7S to PROGRAM with an editor.
You can find additional information on using the SIMATIC Memory Card as a program card or
firmware update card in Setting the card type (Page 310).
Compatibility information
Please note the following information on combinations of CPU and SINAMICS Integrated
firmware:
• An update at hotfix level is always possible.
• Restrictions apply to updates at the level of the main version for the "CPU firmware" and
"SINAMICS Integrated firmware" combination.
• Update files for the SINAMICS Integrated are available in different file formats:
– Old file formats for CPU firmware V2.x with 1-/4-digit version: for example, 6ES7615-
– New file format for CPU firmware ≥ V3.0.x with 3-digit version: for example, 6ES7 615-
The new file formats supports SINAMICS Integrated firmware updates also via the web
server. In this case, "52" denotes the main version V5.2.
If only the SIMATIC S7-1500 firmware is to be upgraded to FW ≥ V3.0.x and the SINAMICS
Integrated firmware remains unchanged on the SIMATIC Drive Controller, no update of
the SINAMICS Integrated firmware is required.

Note
If you insert the SIMATIC Memory Card in a SIMATIC Drive Controller with a higher SINAMICS
Integrated main firmware version, you need to upgrade your project to the relevant
SINAMICS version.
You can only go online with your project if the configured SINAMICS version corresponds to
the SINAMICS firmware version on the SIMATIC Drive Controller.
