To take longitudinal or cross-sectional exposures of either
of the temporomandibular joints, or longitudinal
exposures of the sinus area or midsagittal plane,
position the Frankfort plane so that it is horizontal.
To take longitudinal and cross-sectional exposures of
both mandible and maxilla, position the Frankfort plane
so that it is horizontal or tilted down up to 5°.
To take longitudinal or cross-sectional exposures of the
mandible, position the lower edge of the mandible so
that it is horizontal.
