Procedures for Oral Predictive Mode Determinations

Alaris® Turbo Temp®: Monitor Mode
Monitor mode is most commonly used for axillary temperature determinations.
In monitor mode, the display is updated continually as the patient's temperature
rises or falls. When a monitor mode determination is in progress, the MONITOR
MODE message displays under the temperature value in the vital signs area,
and dashes are displayed until the temperature value is equal to or above
80.0°F. Once the temperature is above 80.0°F, values appear in the vital sign
area. The determination terminates when the probe is inserted back into the
probe holster or a TEMP status alarm is issued.
A time indicator in the vital signs area shows the length of time since the probe
was last removed from the probe holster. It appears in the format of YY : XX
where YY is the elapsed minutes and XX is the elapsed seconds. When the length
of determination extends to over 60 minutes, dashes (-- : --) appear, but the
temperature value remains. When monitor mode is in progress and a recording
is started, the temperature value is printed out as dashes.
For oral temperature measurement, use the blue oral probe.
1.
Ensure blue probe is in the holster.
2.
Connect the temperature probe cable to the temperature probe connector.
3.
Make sure correct determination mode is selected.
4.
Remove the temperature probe from the probe holster (the Monitor beeps
once). Place a protective temperature probe cover on the probe. Failure to
firmly install the probe cover may result in the probe cover becoming loose
or disengaged during use. Be careful not to push the probe ejection button
where the cord exits the probe as this might loosen or eject the probe cover.
5.
Have the patient open his/her mouth slightly. Holding the probe loosely,
insert the probe tip into the sublingual pocket where the richest blood is
located.
To take an accurate oral temperature
reading, place the the thermometer tip in
either the right or left posterior pocket
(heat pocket) at the base of the tongue.
