Trends: Description
Trends can be viewed in two different forms: up to 24 hours of data for all
parameters (full trends) or a limited set of parameters and data that can be
viewed on the main screen below the waveform area (mini trends). Trends can
be accessed through either the Trend hardkey or the view patient trends option
in the Main Menu. The Trend hardkey can also be configured in two ways: to
view full trends or to view mini trends. This hardkey must be configured in the
password-protected configuration mode. The view patient trends option in the
Main Menu accessed full trends, which gives you the capability of viewing and
printing vital signs and alarms over the previous 24 hours. The trends screen,
which is designed in a spreadsheet format, provides up to 10 data points for
each parameter being monitored. Trended information can be displayed in two
modes: graphs or numbers. The default mode must be configured in the
password-protected configuration mode. Once set, the Monitor always returns
to the pre-set default mode. The top waveform and the heart rate, with its
source, are always visible above the trends screen.
The CURSOR column is an option that allows you to view the time and values
associated with trended graphical data. Once activated, a vertical line-a cursor
line—appears in the trended data area. Turn the Trim Knob to move the cursor
line across the trended data. As the cursor line touches a plotted point on the
graphical trends, the corresponding time and values appear in the CURSOR
column. The CURSOR column appears to the left of the NOW column. It is not
displayed when the full trends window is initially opened. You can access the
CURSOR column by choosing the view patient trends option in the Main Menu
and then choosing the Move cursor option. Once the CURSOR column is
activated, you can switch between graphs or numbers modes. The CURSOR
column remains activated until the trends screen is closed.
The far right-hand column, called the NOW column, contains real-time vital sign
data that is updated every second for the current patient. The 9 columns in a
group at the left of the NOW column (and the CURSOR column, if activated)
display data at selected time intervals. The data are displayed left to right, oldest
to newest. The right-hand column in the 9-column group contains data from the
time you select in the Time to view option.
A menu option allows you to choose intervals at which to display the data. You
can also choose a parameter that is not continuously updated (e.g., NIBP) and
view up to 10 data points (including the NOW column) along with the other vital
signs taken at the same times.
If a patient alarm occurs while a trends screen is visible, an alarm message
appears in the alarm message field and the value causing the alarm flashes in
the NOW column. An up arrow next to the value signifies a high limit violation
and a down arrow signifies a low limit violation. In addition, an alarm bell icon
will appear in the scroll bar to provide a visual reference to the time of the alarm.
When a patient is admitted or discharged (if you chose to save the data), two
thick vertical bars known as the ADMIT/DISCHARGE MARK appear at the
appropriate time column and the patient's name appears above the scroll bar.
The admit mark is visible at that place in the time record for 24 hours. Previous
patient data can also be viewed in the 9-column group if your monitor has been
