Fan mode behavior

The server supports nonredundant and redundant fan modes.
Nonredundant fan mode
Fans 1–4 are the default system fans present in a nonredundant fan configuration.
If a single fan fails or is missing when the system is in operating mode, the operating system of the server nodes on the
same side as the missing or failed fan performs a graceful shutdown.
Redundant fan mode
Fans 5–8 are installed to support redundant fan mode.
If a single fan fails when the system is in operating mode, the following behavior is exhibited:
If a single fan fails or is missing, the system continues to operate.
If a second fan in a different fan cage fails or is removed, the system continues to operate.
If a second fan in the same fan cage fails or is removed, the operating system of the server nodes on the same side as
the missing or failed fan performs a graceful shutdown.
In both nonredundant and redundant modes:
When the system is in operating mode and the dual-rotor fan 9–10 fails, the system continues to operate but POST
will display a fan error message.
When the system is in POST mode, the system will boot up even if there is a missing fan.

Redundant fan option

To provide sufficient airflow to the system if a fan rotor fails, the server supports redundant fans.
