Problem
External audio
device does
not work.
System beeps are

a connected external

from device or
expansion base
speakers is low.
Solving Audio Problems
Possible Cause
External audio device
may not be
securely connected.
External audio device
was connected after
the system was
turned on.
Power to external
audio device is
turned off.
External audio device
is not receiving
electrical power.
System beep volume
may need adjusting,
especially when
computer is docked in
a tower system.
System sound has
been muted.
Volume on external
audio device is
set low.
Expansion base
volume settings are
set low.
Solution
Make sure the external
audio device is
securely connected.
Turn system off, then on.
1. Turn on external
device power switch.
2. Turn the system off,
then on.
Make sure power cord is
securely connected to
electrical outlet.
Verify electrical power
supply to outlet.
To increase system beep
volume, press Fn+F5 on
the computer keyboard,
then press the right arrow
(cursor) key.
To restore or mute
sound, toggle the mute
button.
Increase volume setting
on external audio device.
To increase volume of
system sound, press the
top of the expansion
base volume control.
