Printer Commands

Printer Command label codes are used to control the printer and the format of the label. The
printer control codes are specific to the printer being used and enable special features the printer
offers, such as: enlarged, compressed, emphasized, or boldface printing, as well as lines per
inch. Printer control codes are found in your printer manual. To use the BACKLINE label code
described below, your printer must be capable of a reverse line feed.
$CNTL
- allows printer control codes to be transmitted to the printer. These control
codes enable the use of special features the printer offers. The control codes
are found in your printer manual. The codes are entered in decimal and are
separated by spaces or commas. A semicolon designates the end of the list of
codes.
$BACKLINE
- is used to specify the printer's reverse line feed control code. (Not all printers
have a reverse line feed capability; consult your printer manual.) The
BACKLINE code is required when using the EJECT label code, described
below. The EJECT code is used to advance the printer to allow the label to
be removed, and the BACKLINE code is used to back up the form to the next
label position when the next label is to be printed.
The numbers entered after the BACKLINE code specify your printer's
reverse line feed control code sequence. (Consult your printer manual.) The
control codes are entered in decimal and are separated by spaces or commas.
A semicolon is required at the end of the control code number series. A
reverse line feed code sequence for an Okidata 320 is 27, 10 and would be
entered as:
$EJECT
- line feeds the printer the specified number of lines to allow a printed label to
be removed from the label form. The EJECT code requires the printer to
have reverse line feed capability as described above under the BACKLINE
label-code. The number entered after the EJECT code specifies the number
of lines to be advanced for allowing the label to be removed. A semicolon is
required at the end of the number. For example, to advance the page 20 lines,
the code would be entered as:
$BACKLINE 27 10; or $BACKLINE 27,10;
