Model 512 Instruction Manual
Ordinarily, the setup and operation of the Model 512 requires a thorough understanding of this
manual. This section, however, is provided for situations where immediate use is required.
When using this procedure, refer to the sections indicated within the procedure when more detail
is required for specific steps.

TESTER SETUP

Refer to the System Setup section for details.
1. Remove Model 512 from shipping container and set on suitable work station.
2. Connect line cord between rear panel and a properly grounded outlet. (See Figure 2.)
3. Turn power on by moving switch on rear panel to 1 (on). Cablescan Model 512 Ready
will display and a short tone will sound.
4. Press Down arrow to step through menu modes until Self Test is displayed.
5. Press MENU RUN to initiate Self Test. Passed Self Test will display.
6. Connect the test fixture or interface cable to the test point connectors on the rear panel.
See Figure 2.

LEARN CABLE ASSEMBLY

Refer to Learn mode in the Operating Instructions section for details.
1. Engage ENABLE plug. (The ENABLE plug is required for functions that change the test
program such as Learn, Save, and Delete.)
2. Connect known-good harness to test fixture or interface cables.
3. Press RESET, and step through menu modes until Learn Known Good is displayed.
4. Press MENU RUN to initiate learn. After a few seconds Learning . . . Complete will
display.
5. Remove known-good harness/cable.

TEST CABLE ASSEMBLY

1. Connect harness/cable to be tested.
2. Press RESET, and then TEST. The cable is good when Passed is displayed.
3. Remove harness/cable from test fixture.
4. Test remaining harnesses/cables.
