Model 512 Instruction Manual

Search for Wire ID

The Model 512 may be used as an assembly or troubleshooting aid, using the SEARCH mode
and the wrist strap or probe. A complete procedure is provided below. Once familiarized, the
user may refer to Figure 12.
1. Insert wrist strap or probe lead into PROBE receptacle on rear panel.
2. Fasten strap around one wrist, or grasp probe.
3. Connect harness or assembly fixture.
4. Press Up or Down arrow to step through the menu until SEARCH is displayed.
5. Press MENU RUN to initiate SEARCH mode.
6. Touch wire end with hand or probe, and the display will show the pin number(s) of that
wire.
7. Touch another wire, and its corresponding pin number(s) will be displayed. If more than
one wire is touched at a time, the display will scroll through the numbers in succession

Loop Test

Executing LOOP TEST will initiate continuous scanning through the connected assembly. This
test is used for locating intermittent connection problems. When an error is encountered, the test
is halted and the error is displayed. Pressing MENU RUN will restart the test. A complete Loop
Test procedure is provided below. Once familiarized, however, the user may refer to Figure 7.
To select and use LOOP TEST, proceed as follows:
1. Load program to be used in this test (refer to "Load Program").
2. Install harness to be tested.
3. Press Up or Down arrow to step through the menu until LOOP TEST is displayed.
4. Press MENU RUN to initiate the LOOP TEST mode. Each time a successful scan is
completed, a loop count on the display will increment by one. If an error is located, the
test stops and the error is displayed.
5. To restart the test, press MENU RUN, and the loop count will reset to zero.
6. When test is completed, remove harness.

Test for Opens

This mode tests an assembly for opens only. If the test is successful, "Passed" is displayed. If
an open is encountered, testing is halted and "Open" and the FROM/TO points are displayed. If
the open circuit is corrected a tone sounds and testing continues. Pressing MENU RUN
bypasses the error and testing continues; "failed" will be displayed at the end of test.

Test for Shorts

This mode tests an assembly for shorts only. Operation is identical to Test for Opens, except
only shorts are displayed.
