    It is self-programming and can retain up to twenty-four programs at a time in memory. The Model 64 tests for both opens and shorts from each point to all other points in cables and harnesses of up to 64 connections (128 connections for the Model 64x2).

    Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual TESTER FEATURES The top panel of the Model 64 and Model 64x2 provides a set of function keys (Figure 1). They are flush-mounted membrane switches that are activated by a gentle but positive touch. Five functions are represented by their own keys, and fourteen others are selected through a menu.

    Six-character User Labels can be assigned to test points for each wire list program stored in the Model 64. Each User Label relates a harness connector/pin to a Model 64 test point on the tester interface connector. When User Labels are assigned to point numbers, all displays and printouts will show User Labels in lieu of the tester point numbers.

    PREPARATION UNPACKING Upon unpacking the Model 64 from its shipping carton, inspect it for evidence of abuse during shipment. If such is found, notify Cablescan and the carrier at once. Save the shipping carton and packing materials for later use.
  • Page 15 Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual Page 7 To install a Program Cartridge, proceed as follows: 1. Turn power off (power ON/OFF switch on rear panel). 2. Verify cartridge contents on label: locations may be empty, or contain program(s) that may to be deleted or used (figure 3, below).

    2. For self test of the Model 64, verify that no circuits are connected to the interface connector on the rear panel, and then press the Up or Down arrow to step through the menu to reach SELF TEST.

    Computer (PC) when not connected to a printer. Cablescan provides an optional PC software program (TERM), which can be used to control and transfer programs between the Model 64 and PC. The software can also be used to transfer programs between the Model 64 and other Cablescan testers.

    (Wrist Strap or Probe) can be used in locating the proper wire from a bundle. The assembly sequence of the wire list is first programmed off-line with a PC and then downloaded with optional PC software to the Model 64. Once in the tester, the program can be saved to tester memory.

    Page 14 Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual MENU-SELECTED FUNCTIONS Up/Down Arrows The Up and Down arrows are used to select menu functions, scrolling through wire list programs and making selections within other functions. Menu Run The MENU RUN key is used to execute the menu function that is selected by the Up/Down arrows and shown on the display.

Save Cartridge This function is used to copy a wire list program from the working memory to one of the storage locations in the Program Cartridge.

    This function checks for opens and shorts on the scanner transmit/receive lines (scanner boards) of the Model 64. The error type (open or short) and the faulty points are displayed. No test harness may be connected to the unit during Self Test.

    3. Press Up or Down arrow to step through the MENU until LEARN KNOWN GOOD is displayed. 4. Press MENU RUN to initiate LEARN KNOWN GOOD. The Model 64 will instantly scan the known-good harness and store its configuration (wire list) in memory.

    Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual Page 19 WIRE LIST PRINTING This procedure requires hookup of the optional printer. A wire list printout provides a hardcopy of the test program. The wire list printout also includes its program signature code for future reference.

    Page 20 Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual TEST When TEST is executed, one complete scan is performed on the harness under test. If the scanned configuration compares exactly with the wire list program in working memory, the test is successful and the display will show "Passed 0001/0001." The first number after Passed represents the number of tests that have passed.

These functions are used to copy the program from the working memory to one of the internal memory or cartridge memory locations. A complete Save procedure is provided below.

These functions are used to copy a wire list program from a memory location into the working memory. The program in working memory will be over-written by the program being loaded.

    Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual Page 25 DELETING A PROGRAM There are two functions for deleting a program; DELETE INTERNAL, and DELETE CARTRIDGE. These functions are used to erase a program from a storage location in memory (internal or cartridge). (The program currently in working memory is not affected.) A complete Delete procedure is provided below.

    Sequential Build follows the wire list sequence to display each open circuit to the operator. The specific sequence order can be programmed by a PC and downloaded to the Model 64. This requires optional PC software to provide the file conversion and downloading functions. The SEQ BUILD function requires use of the wrist strap to locate and identify displayed points, and the foot switch to bypass sequence steps.

To select and use the SEARCH function, proceed as follows: 1. Insert wrist strap or probe lead into PROBE jack on rear panel.

    Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual Page 29 SETTING BAUD RATE The SET BAUD RATE function provides for selecting between two baud rate settings (1200 and 9600) when using the PRINTER/SERIAL port. The 1200 baud rate is used with the printer; the 9600 baud rate is used when interfacing with a PC.

A User List printout provides a hardcopy of the User Labels for a specific test program.     OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS - KEYBOARD INTRODUCTION The Model 64 can be controlled from a keyboard instead of the top panel controls. Keyboard control can be obtained by interfacing to an optional CRT/Terminal or a Personal Computer (PC) that is running Cablescan’s Terminal Emulation Program (TERM). Refer to the PC Interface procedure in the Preparation section for setting up a CRT/Terminal or PC.

These commands used in conjunction with use body conductance to locate and identify desired wires for assembly. At the system prompt, enter the two-letter command, followed by an ENTER.

Delete External command (DX) is used to erase a wire list program from one of the storage locations in the cartridge. When the DX command is typed followed by an ENTER, the signature of one of the programs in the cartridge is displayed.

The Save External Program command (SX) is used to save the program currently in the working memory by copying it to an external/cartridge EEPROM memory. If the cartridge does not have sufficient memory to store the program, MEMORY FULL is displayed.

    Page 38 Model 64/64x2 Instruction Manual MODEL 64 OUTPUT SIGNALS Two output signals are provided for controlling external devices through unused pins on the printer connector. The pins are connected to the CPU board where jumpers may be installed to activate the signals.

    REPAIR If the Model 64 requires repair for any defect of manufacture, and it is within the warranty period, contact Cablescan, Inc., for instructions on returning it to the factory. If the Model 64 is beyond warranty period, and repair is necessary, it still is advisable to return the unit to the factory for repair.
