LABEL DEFINITION FILE

The data to be printed on labels, as well as special printer command information, must be set up
in a label definition file. The label definition file is created with a PC and text editor/word
processor, and saved as a text (ASCII) file. The file is then copied from the PC to the Model 512
3.5-inch floppy and given the file name LABEL.DEF. The floppy can then be inserted into the
Model 512 and loaded using the Load Printer Label function as described above.

LABEL CODES

The label definition file is a combination of label codes and label text. Label codes are used to
specify operations and are preceded by a dollar sign ($). The label definition file can be set up
two ways: a single label using a status label code ($STATUS) (to print pass or fail on the label);
or two labels, one for pass ($PASS) and one for fail ($FAIL). There are three types of label
codes: Label Definition, Conditional, and Printer Commands:

Label Definition

Label Definition codes identify the pass and fail label in the file, and they also identify the end of
each label.
$ENDLABEL - defines the end of a label. Endlabel is used to mark the end of the last label
and separate the $POS, $BACKLINE, and $EJECT printer commands from
the label information. Blank lines between the endlabel command and the
last label code are printed to align the top of each label.
$FAIL
- defines the start of the fail label. The text for the fail label begins at the first
character to the right of the label code.
$PASS
- defines the start of the pass label. The text for the pass label begins at the
first character to the right of the label code.

Conditional

Conditional label codes are those that require the Model 512 to substitute information relating to
the test or the time the test was performed.
A. Overwriting an Existing Label
B. Terminating the Load Function
