Model 512 Instruction Manual

INTRODUCTION

The Editor is the mode that allows the user to enter continuities in the Wire List and User
Notation assignments to test points. Many of the features in the editor are for ease of use and
versatility. The Editor requires the optional Keyboard/CRT Terminal or a PC running the
Cablescan optional PC DOS program TERM. The Editor is entered from the system prompt,
which is denoted on the monitor by a greater-than sign (>). The system prompt (>) will display
each time the ESC key is pressed.

Edit Table (W,U)?
The Wire List program in the Model 512 consists of two separate lists. One is known as the
Wire List Table, and the other the User Notation Table. The Wire List table contains the
From/To tester point pairs for all continuities. The User Notation Table assigns user labels to
tester points. User labels must be assigned in the User Notation Table before they can be used in
assigning From/To points in the wire list table. Without the User Notation Table, the From/To
points must be entered in the Wire List Table as the actual numeric point numbers of the tester.
(Therefore the User Notation Table should be entered first.) When the Editor is entered, a
system prompt for the table to be edited is displayed. To enter the User Notation Table, type U.
To enter the Wire List Table, type W. (Note: Do not press the ENTER key after entering U or
W.)

The Wire List Table handles the data for continuities. It shows the FROM and TO points and
the CIRCUIT LABEL field, organized by sequence number. FROM and TO points can be up to
8 characters as entered in the User Notation Table.
alphanumeric strings and are used for displaying wire numbers, wire colors, or short assembly
notes. This table is where the actual continuities are programmed. Each line in the Wire List
represents a continuity. A W is displayed in the left column to indicate that you are in the Wire
List; it is followed by a line number or sequence number and then the FROM point and TO
Point. The last column contains the circuit label. An example is shown below:
