UNPACKING

Upon unpacking the Model 512 from its shipping carton, inspect it for evidence of abuse during
shipment. If such is found, notify Cablescan and the carrier at once. Save the shipping carton
and packing materials for later use.

INITIAL SETUP

The Model 512 has an auto-switching power supply that eliminates the need to change voltage
settings. Refer to Specifications in the front of this manual for the operating voltage range.
1. Make sure that the power switch on the back panel is set to 0 (off), and then plug in the
power cord.
2. Turn power switch to 1 (on), and observe that a message is displayed. The Model 512 is
ready for use. (If nothing happens, check power source, power cord connections, and the
fuse on the rear panel.)

POWER TURN-ON AND SELF TEST

Verify that the power cord is connected to the proper power source, then proceed as follows:
1. Turn power on at the unit by moving the power switch on the rear panel to 1 (on); the
display will light up and a tone will sound.
2. For a self test of the basic Model 512, verify that no circuits are connected to the
interface connectors on the rear panel.
3. Press the Up or Down arrow to step through the menu to display Self Test.
4. Press MENU RUN to initiate Self Test. If the unit passes self test, the display will show
Passed XXX ( the number of points tested), and a tone will sound. Refer to Self Test in
the Main Menu Functions section. If self test fails, the display will show one of the
following:

SHORT
5. Self test will stop when a fault or error is encountered. To resume the test, press MENU
