Power Distribution

The shelf has two different power distribution systems. The first is a management power
system (3.4V DC) that provides power to IPMCs on shelf FRUs (fan trays and user cards) and to
the MF106 hubs. The second is a high power system (-48V DC) that provides power to all
blades, fans trays, shelf managers and user cards.
7.2.3.1

Management Power Distribution

The shelf's management power distribution system is used for powering the IPMCs engines of
shelf FRUs. This power source (3.4V DC) is distributed in the shelf via a redundant
interconnection. The first (V_A) is sourced from MF106-1, the second (V_B) from MF106-2.
The IPMCs are expected to OR the two sources to allow for redundancy. Current on each source
is limited to 1.0 A.

illustrates the PEM low power distribution of system in the shelf.
7.2.3.2

High Power Distribution

The shelf's high power distribution system is used for powering the blades, ShMCs, fan trays
and user cards. This high power source (-48V DC - nominal) manifests itself in a redundant
interconnect.
7.2.3.3

AC Power Interconnect

The redundant interconnect is made up of the PSU1 and PSU2 output feeds. The first feed (-
48V_A) is sourced from the PSU1 on the left-hand side (as viewed from the front of the shelf).
The second feed (-48V_B) is sourced from the PSU2 on the right-hand side. Both feeds are
individually routed to each ShMC, fan tray, node and user card slot. In both interconnects, the
FRUs are expected to OR the two sources to allow for redundancy.
The PSUs are capable of supplying 16A of current.
