Connecting an ANG-3000/7000

ANG-3000/7000s are equipped with two 8-pin modular RJ-45 Ethernet ports
labeled TRUSTED and EXTERNAL. If you decide to use only one Ethernet
port on an Aurorean Network Gateway, you must use the TRUSTED port.
The TRUSTED port should be connected to the same network segment as the
Aurorean Policy Server, which should reside behind a firewall or a router that
provides network protection.
An ANG can be connected to an Ethernet network segment residing outside a
firewall using the EXTERNAL port. In this configuration, the ANG performs
some routing functions and ensures that only GRE packets from authorized
sources pass into the corporate network.
To connect ANG-3000/7000 Ethernet ports, perform the following steps:

Figure 19 Connecting an Ethernet Cable to an APS-3000/7000
1
Plug the blue, straight-through Ethernet cable supplied with the ANG
into the TRUSTED port as shown in Figure 20.
2
Plug the opposite end of the cable into a wall jack, patch panel, or hub
linked to a protected network segment.
LEDs next to the gateway's Ethernet port show link activity and
indicate if the port is connected to a 10/100 Mbps network. For a
complete description of Ethernet LEDs, refer to Chapter 3.
