SMARTSTACK ETHERNET ELS10-27
The SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 does not require any additional
conÞguration to operate as a standard, transparent switch. However, if
you want to use any of the SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27Õs advanced
functions, you must Þrst assign an IP (Internet Protocol) address on the
SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 to communicate with a Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) manager.
To initially assign an IP address, you can use the Local Console Manager
(LCM). LCM is a command-line interface built into the SmartSTACK
Ethernet ELS10-27 that allows you to conÞgure and manage the
SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 through the out-of-band RS232C
connection attached to any non-intelligent terminal, or a PC emulating a
non-intelligent terminal. (See Section 3.1, Assigning IP Addresses.)
Once you have assigned an IP address, you can use SNMP-compliant
network management tools to conÞgure and manage the SmartSTACK
Ethernet ELS10-27.
ConÞguration parameters are stored in an SNMP standard Management
Information Base (MIB). All SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 MIB
variables are listed and described in the SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27
MIB Reference Guide.
Note: There are some configuration options that cannot be configured using
LCM commands. You may need to modify your configuration using an
NMS. See Section 3.14, Modifying MIB Variables.
The following sections describe how to conÞgure the optional parameters
of the SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 using LCM commands, including:

¥ Displaying bridging functions
¥ Enabling and disabling trunking
