FastStream operations: adding or removing Hot Spares

The ATTO FastStream VT replaces degraded or
faulted drives in a VTL without intervention by you or a
host if you set up a pool of Hot Spare drives of different
sizes appropriate for your VTL. Hot Spares may be set
up by the FastStream VT automatically depending on
your choices during initial setup.
Note
Drives in the Hot Spare pool should be of
appropriate size to the RAID Group so that
smaller drives are not replaced by much larger
Hot Spare devices.
When the ATTO FastStream VT detects a faulted
drive:
• The Controller searches the Hot Spare pool for
the smallest drive of sufficient size to substitute
for the faulted drive.
• The FastStream replaces the faulted drive with
the drive from the Hot Spare pool.
• The FastStream begins an automatic rebuild of
the RAID groups.

Adding a VTL from another FastStream, replacing a failed appliance

You may attach a VTL from another FastStream VT to
the FastStream VT you are currently working with or
replace a failed appliance. The current FastStream VT
must discover the other VTL or appliance through
mapping. When you create your first library, the media
changer and tape drive LUNs are mapped
automatically to one of two ports. When you recognize
a second library, it may be mapped to the other port or
to the same port.
Note
The FastStream VT supports two libraries, one
on each port or two on one port.
