5. Add a static entry in your local ARP table consisting of the BorderNet 500 Gateway's MAC address and the
IP address it should have on eth0. To add a static ARP entry on a Windows

Installing with a keyboard and monitor requires being at the same place as the BorderNet 500 Gateway, but will
give more options for the start configuration.
To install with a keyboard and monitor follow these steps:
1. Connect the BorderNet 500 Gateway to your VGA monitor and USB keyboard.
2. Plug in the power cord and turn the BorderNet 500 Gateway on.
3. Wait while the BorderNet 500 Gateway boots up.
4. When using a serial cable, log on from your workstation. Otherwise, just log onto the local console.
5. Run the installation program (see the following instructions).
6. Connect the network cables to the network interfaces.

To install with a serial cable on a Windows
1. Connect the BorderNet 500 Gateway to your workstation with the enclosed serial cable, plug the power cord
into the serial console port, and turn the SIParator on. You will have to wait a few minutes while the
workstation boots up.
2. Using a serial port interface program such as Hyperterminal, connect with a bit rate of 19200 bits per second,
and wait for a login prompt.

To install with a serial cable on a Linux workstation, follow these steps:
1. Connect the BorderNet 500 Gateway to your workstation with the enclosed serial cable, plug the power cord
into the serial console port, and turn the SIParator on. You will have to wait a few minutes while the
workstation boots up.
2. Make sure there is a symbolic link named /dev/modem that points to the serial port to which you connected
the SIParator.
3. Connect using minicom with a bit rate of 19200 bits per second, and wait for a login prompt.
