General Safety Instructions

This section contains safety instructions for connecting the BorderNet 500 Gateway hardware.

Warnings

Read and adhere to all warnings, cautions, and notices in this guide, as they pertain to important safety and
regulatory requirements. Additional notices are given in the section titled "International Regulatory Information."

Safety Information

Before installing and using the equipment, note the following precautions:
• Read all instructions carefully.
• Do not place the equipment on an unstable surface, cart, or stand.
• Follow all warnings and cautions in this guide.
• When replacing parts, ensure that your service technician uses parts specified by the manufacturer.
• Avoid using the system near water, in direct sunlight, or near a heating device.
• The computer is provided with a battery-powered real-time clock circuit. CAUTION: DANGER OF EXPLOSION
IF BATTERY IS INCORRECTLY REPLACED. REPLACE ONLY WITH THE SAME OR EQUIVALENT TYPE
RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. DISCARD USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S
INSTRUCTIONS.

Rack Mounting Warnings

• If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment
may be greater than room ambient temperature. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the
equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the
manufacturer.
• Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation
of the equipment is not compromised.
• Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to
uneven mechanical loading. The load of the system equipment does not solely rely for support from the rack
mount ears located on the sides. Firm support from the bottom is required in order to provide stability.
• Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that
overloading of the circuits might have on over current protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration
of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
• Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to
supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g., use of power strips).
