Brake chopper connection

In generator operation, e.g. when the drive is braking, the motor feeds energy back into the servo amplifi-
er. This increases the voltage in the DC link. If the voltage exceeds a threshold value, the internal braking
transistor in the supply unit is switched on and the regenerative energy is converted into heat by means of
a brake resistor.
The JM-3000 supply unit always requires a brake resistor. You can choose between an external brake
resistor or the model "Supply unit with integrated brake resistor" (see order number code).

3.9.1 Connecting an external brake resistor

The BR terminal is permanently connected to DC link potential
(> 300 V DC).
Never wire or loosen live electrical connections! Before perform-
ing any kind of work, disconnect the device from the mains sup-
ply. Dangerous high voltages ≥ 50 V may be present even
10 minutes after disconnection from mains power (capacitor
charge). Therefore, always check that there is no voltage.
