Connecting the protective earth conductor
Step
Every device in the axis group must be grounded!
• Connect the PE connections of the supply
unit, the servo amplifier and the controller in

series. Connect one of the devices to the PE
rail (main ground) in the control cabinet (see

Connect the protective conductor terminals of all

other components, such as line filter*), line reac-
tor*), etc. in a star configuration to the PE rail
(main ground) in the control cabinet.
Follow the local and national regulations and

conditions. The minimum cross-section of the pro-
tective earth conductor must comply with the local
safety requirements for protective earth conduc-
tors in equipment with high leakage current.
3.4.1 PE connection acc. to DIN EN 61800-5-1
The leakage current is > 3.5 mA. This situation results in the following minimum requirements for the
protective earth conductor cross-section as a function of the phase conductor cross-section, as per EN
61800-5-1.

Since the leakage current is >3.5 mA, the following
applies to the PE connection:
• Use protective conductors with the same cross-
sectional area as the mains cables.
• If the cross-sectional area of the mains cable
is < 10 mm² , the PE connections must be
doubled, see Fig. 3.4, or a copper cable with a
minimum cross-section of 10 mm² must be laid.
