MINIMUM SAFETY DISTANCES

When selecting a location for the appliance it is important to con-
sider the required clearances to walls.
The position of the product inside the room must take into ac-
count not only the regulations, heating requirements, the shape
of the installation and adjoining rooms but also accessibility dur-
ing installation, use and maintenance operations.
It is therefore recommended that an area greater than the one
indicated, is left around the appliance to facilitate maintenance
interventions and prevent overheating problems.
The walls adjacent to the product, the structure above the ap-
pliance and the floor on which the appliance rests must be in
non-flammable material.
Installation is allowed near heat sensitive or flammable objects as
long as there is suitable insulation protection and distances are
respected (in the case of a wooden floor, a protective base must
be used: e.g. minimum 20 gauge sheet metal plate, marble, ce-
ramic tile with grauted joints, stone, brick, etc.).
Construction elements which are already present such as wood-
en beams or a counter-hood and all trims in combustible material
must be positioned outside the irradiating range of the product
and away from any grilles or slits from which hot air is releases.
Suitable insulating material must be used.
The minimum distances are:
- 7" (15 cm) from the side wall
- 32" (80 cm) in the heat radiation area and from the the hot air
fan outlet
The floor protection must extend:
- under the product
- a minimum of 6" (152 mm) in front of unit and beyond each side
of the fuel loading and ash removal opening (see figure for the
distances from the external side of the coating)
- floor protection is required under any horizontal venting. This
protection must extend 2" (5.8cm) beyond each side of the
horizontal pipe.
NOTE for Canadian installation only: Per ULC S627.
If installed on a combustible floor, the need to provide a non-
combustible floor protector covering the area beneath the space
heater and extending at least 17.72" (450mm) on the firing side
and at least 7.87" (200mm) on the other sides.
In Canada, you may follow smaller U.S. floor protection require-
ments ONLY if the user agrees to completely shut-down the ap-
pliance, and allows it to cool to where all fire is extinguished and
the combustion blower and its indicator light shuts off, prior to
opening the firebox door or ash door.
