Installing a Power Supply in a PTX1000

The power supplies in a PTX1000 are hot-removable and hot-insertable field-replaceable units (FRUs)—you
can remove and replace them without powering off the PTX1000 or disrupting routing functions.
CAUTION:
overheating. Before removing the power supply, ensure you have a replacement power
supply available.
Before you install a power supply in a PTX1000, ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions
to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage (see
on page
161).
Ensure that you have an ESD grounding strap.
If the power supply has protective plastic wrap, peel and remove the plastic wrap from all four sides of
the power supply.
CAUTION:
To install a power supply in a PTX1000 (see
1. To prevent damage to the equipment caused by static discharge, attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD)
grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
2. Taking care not to touch power supply components, pins, leads, or solder connections, remove the
power supply from its bag.
3. Using both hands, place the power supply in the power supply slot on the FRU panel of the PTX1000
and slide it in until it is fully seated and the locking lever slides into place.
Replace the power supply within 30 seconds of removal to prevent chassis
Do not mix AC and DC power supplies in the same chassis.
