System components and expansions
The following applies if SCSI hard disk drives are operated on a RAID controller:
– RAID level 0 and 7
Rebuild is not possible. If a hard disk drive fails, its data is lost.
– RAID level 1 and 5 without standby hard disk drive
Rebuild on the new disk is carried out automatically when the old disk is
swapped.
– RAID level 1 and 5 with standby hard disk drive
A standby hard disk drive is automatically enabled as a replacement for the
defective hard disk drive, and the data of the defective disk is rebuilt on the
standby drive.
Ê Read the documentation for the new hard disk drive.

Handling Hard Disk Drives/Modules

Hard disk drives incorporated in the hard disk drive modules are highly sensitive
electromagnetic devices and must be handled with great care. It is extremely
likely that an incorrect handling will lead to a partially and/or total failure of the
hard disk drives.
These failures will result in data errors and to loss of data or to total destruction
of the hard disk drive.
Please observe following rules, which will help to avoid the occurrence of this
type of problems:
Store and transport hard disk drive plug-in modules only within the limits
stipulated in the specification.
When transporting hard disk drive modules (even over short distances),
always use the original packaging (ESD labeling).
Never expose a hard disk drive module to a temperature shock. Avoid the
formation of condensation inside and on the outside of the hard disk drives.
The hard disk drives may be expose only to defined temperature and
climatic conditions.
Always put the hard disk drive module down carefully, with its largest surface
facing downwards, to avoid the danger of tipping over.
