Preparing the system for operation after removing and replacing the system
backplane in a water-cooled 8335-GTB
To prepare a water-cooled system for operation after replacing a system backplane, complete the steps in
this procedure.
About this task
Procedure
1. Prepare the system for operation. For instructions, see "Preparing the 8335-GTB system for operation
after you remove and replace internal parts" on page 198.
2. Verify that the jumper is set to water-cooled by using the ipmitool command:
ipmitool -I lanplus -U <username> -P <password> -H <bmc ip or hostname> sensor list | grep "Water Cooled"
The value for the water-cooled jumper setting is 0x0180:
Water Cooled | 0x0 | discrete | 0x0180| na | na | na | na | na | na
If the value returned is not 0x0180, you must correct the jumper setting as shown in "Replacing the
system backplane in a water-cooled 8335-GTB" on page 126.
3. Set the system serial number in the system backplane.
After you replace the system backplane, you must set the system serial number in the system
backplane by using the vital product data (VPD) update tool. To download the tool, complete the
following steps:
a. Go to the IBM Support Portal website(www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/product/power/
scale-out_lc).
b. In the search field, enter your machine type and model. Then, click the correct product support
entry for your system.
