10.2 Mobile heat extractor - application

Specimen freezing with the freezing shelf can be accelerated by the additional use of a heat extractor.
1. Store the heat extractor in the cryochamber.
2. Hold it on the specimen surface to accelerate freezing.
3. Take it away once the specimen is entirely frozen.
Note
Recommendation:
It is recommended to precool the heat extractor in liquid nitrogen or other refrigerant.
Warning
Caution! There is a risk of injury due to freezer burn!

10.3 Cold extraction - using the Thermal block

The thermal block

The thermal block is not stored in the cryostat chamber; rather, it is stored outside at room
temperature.
1. Place the cap

3. After about 20 seconds, the frozen specimen can be removed from the specimen disc with

4. If the cap is too loose, readjust it using the screw (→ "Fig. 110-6").
