4. Click Start Backup.
Wait for the message indicating that the backup was successful.
5. If Communication Manager Messaging is installed on the S8300C or S8300D, back up the
messaging announcements:
- Return to the Backup Now screen and uncheck all but Announcements.
- Select the Backup Method (see Step
- Click Start Backup.

Be sure to wear a properly grounded ESD wrist strap when handling the S8300C

or S8300D Server or its hard drive. Place all components on a grounded,
anti-static mat when working on them. When picking up the hard drive, hold only
the edges — do not touch the bottom of the hard drive.
To power down the server:
1. Shutdown the S8300C or S8300D Server using either the Server (Maintenance) Web page
or the manual Shutdown button on the faceplate.
- On the Server (Maintenance) Web page, select Server > Shutdown Server.
- Select the Delayed Shutdown option, uncheck the Restart server after shutdown
checkbox, and click Shutdown.
- Alternatively, you can manually initiate a shutdown by pressing the Shutdown button on
the S8300C or S8300D faceplate. Hold the button in until the green "OK to Remove" LED
starts blinking.
2. When the "OK to Remove" LED is on steady or when you are certain that the server has
powered down you can continue with installing the new hard drive or server.
3. The media gateway does not need to be powered down. In most cases it is desireable to
leave the gateway powered up, especially if the media gateway is supporting service.

The shutdown step ejects the CD tray. So before you power up after replacing the

4. Disconnect USB CompactFlash reader/writer if present. Disconnect USB Modem if
present. Disconnect USB DVD/CD reader if present.
