Proper Use

- The system is designed for use in industrial areas.
- It is used
ƒ for measuring film thickness of plastics
ƒ for measuring layer thickness of insulators
- The sensors may only be operated within the limits specified in the technical data, see
Chap. 2..
- The system should only be used in such a way that in case of malfunction or failure per-
sonnel or machinery are not endangered.
- Additional precautions for safety and damage prevention must be taken for safety-related
applications.
1.5

Proper Environment

- Protection class
ƒ Controller: IP 40
ƒ Sensor: IP 54
- Temperature
ƒ Controller: +10 to +60 °C (+50 to +140 °F)
ƒ Sensor cable: -10 to +125 °C (+14 to +257 °F)
ƒ Sensor: -10 to +85 °C (+14 to +185 °F)
- Storage temperature
ƒ Controller: 0 to +75 °C (+32 to +167 °F)
ƒ Sensor, cable: -10 to +100 °C (+14 to +212 °F)
- Humidity: 5 - 95 % (no condensation)
- Ambient pressure: Atmospheric pressure
- The space gap between the sensor face and the target may not be contaminated (for
example water, rubbed-off parts, dust, et cetera).
- EMC: according to
ƒ EN 55011: 2007 + A2: 2007
ƒ EN 61 000-6-2: 2005
If the system is applied in areas subject to RF interferences, we would recommend checking
the installation for EMC compliance as the physical capacitive measurement principle evalu-
ates the electrical field between the sensor and the object to be measured as measurement
signal.
The measurement object has to be installed as electrical conductor with failure-free poten-
tial in order to ensure that the measured potential difference between the sensor and the
measurement object can be definitely assigned to the distance signal.
