Installing a hot-plug PCI/PCI-X adapter

To change the order in which the server scans devices and PCI-X slots,
start the Configuration/Setup Utility program and select Start Options from
the main menu. See "Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program" on
page 54.
You do not have to turn off the server to install a hot-plug adapter in any
of the PCI-X slots. However, you must turn off the server when
performing any steps that involve installing or removing cables.
To install a hot-plug PCI or PCI-X adapter, complete the following steps:
Ê Make sure that the PCI hot-plug device driver is installed. For details, see the
documentation that comes with the adapter.
Ê Slide the server out of the rack until the slide rails lock into place.
Ê Remove the server cover (see "Removing the Cover" on page 108) and
determine which PCI-X expansion slot you will use for the adapter.
Ê See the documentation that comes with the adapter for instructions for
setting jumpers or switches and for cabling.
For the following steps, see figure 29 on page 122:
Ê Determine which PCI-X expansion slot you will use for the adapter.
Ê Route adapter cables before you install the adapter.
