Power Cabling

The server is equipped with a modular, hot-plug power supply consisting of two
power supply units.
The power supply units automatically adjust to a voltage range from
i
100 V to 127 V or from 200 V to 240 V.
Redundancy is only given when two power supply units are installed and
the server is driven with 200 V to 240 V. If a defect occurs in one unit, the
other unit ensures unimpaired further operation. The defective unit can
be replaced during operation (see section "Replacing a hot-plug power
supply" on page 110).
When the server is attached to 100 V to 127 V, no power supply redun-
dancy is available. Both power supply units are needed for proper
operation of the server.
The two power supply units should be connected to different phases to
ensure unimpaired server operation in case of a phase failure.
Your server uses two power cords that can be connected to a primary power unit
inside the rack, such as a properly grounded distribution unit or an uninter-
ruptible power supply (UPS).
Each power supply unit has its own system power connector (see "Rear View"
on page 47). Both system power connectors must connected to provide both
power supply units with AC power.
Plugging the power-supply cords into an electrical outlet might cause the
i
server to start automatically. This is an acceptable action.
Refer to section "Switching On the Server" on page 51 for detailed infor-
mation about turning on the server.
