Preparation for Operation
A user who types the power-on password has access to only the limited Config-
uration/Setup Utility menu; the user can set, change, and delete the power-on
password, if the system administrator has given the user that authority.
Preventing unauthorized BIOS Setup calls (admin password)
You can activate this protection by setting an administrator password in the
System Security menu.
Select this choice to set an administrator password (admin password). The
administrator password provides access to all choices on the Configu-
ration/Setup Utility main menu. You can set, change, or delete both the admin-
istrator and power-on passwords and allow a power-on password to be changed
by the user. You can use any combination of up to seven characters (A–Z, a–z,
and 0–9) for your power-on password. Keep a record of your password in a
secure place.
CAUTION!
!
If an administrator password is set and then forgotten, it cannot be
overridden or removed. You must replace the I/O board.
Preventing unauthorized system access (power-on password)
You can activate this protection by setting a power-on password in the System
Security menu. When a power-on password is set, POST does not complete until
you type the password.
After you set a power-on password, you can enable the Unattended Start mode.
This locks the keyboard and mouse, but enables the system to start the
operating system. The keyboard and mouse remain locked until you type the
correct password.
You can use any combination of up to seven characters (A–Z, a–z, and 0–9) for
your power-on password. Keep a record of your password in a secure place.
If you forget the power-on password, you can regain access to the server
through one of the following methods:
Ê If an administrator password is set, type the administrator password at the
power-on prompt. Start the Configuration/Setup Utility program and reset
the power-on password.
Ê Remove and reinstall the lithium battery or reset the jumper on the I/O board.
These methods are reserved for service personnel only.
