F.3 Charging/Recharging Lithium-Ion Battery
The Matrix Equalizer electronic pipette uses a Lithium-Ion rechargeable
battery located in a battery case under the keypad. The battery is charged
while it is in the pipette by using the power transformer included in the
package. The pipettor can be operated while it is recharging. The battery lasts
approximately 400-500 recharging cycles. To extend battery life, the pipette
will turn off automatically if it is not used within ten minutes.
Rapid Charge - The battery should be charged for 1.5 to 2 hours to achieve a
full charge. Refer to the following table for partial charge times:
Amount of Charge Time
80%: 1.25 hour
95%: 1.5 hours
100%: 2 hours max
The battery pack for the Equalizer pipette features an indicator light to indicate
the state of charge of the battery while plugged into the power supply. With the
unit plugged in, the indicator operates as follows:
• Green - Indicates that the power supply is connected.
• Orange - Indicates charging (charge current into the battery).
• Flashing Orange to Green - When the battery is fully drained, the indicator
will remain a solid orange for a while as the battery requires constant charge
current.
As the unit continues to charge, current is supplied in pulses. This is indicated
by the flashing of the indicator. As the battery nears full charge, the flashing
slows down becoming nearly a constant green. When the battery is fully
charged, the indicator will be almost a constant green, flashing only about
once every 3-5 seconds to ensure the battery stays fully charged.
Note: The typical life expectancy of the battery is approximately 400-500
charging cycles. Please note that an old battery can cause the pipette to
malfunction. We recommend that you change the battery every 3 years. To
extend battery life cycle, it's recommended to charge the pipette every two
months even the pipette is not used daily.
CAUTION! The battery pack and power supply for the Matrix Equalizer
electronic pipette is not interchangeable with the power supply and battery
pack of single channel electronic pipette models. The power jack/connector
and battery connector are different to prevent using them by mistake with
single channel models.
