Chapter 2 Getting Acquainted with the Printer What is the printer driver? The printer driver provides a vital link between the software application and the printer. The printer driver takes the data created by the software application, converts it to a format that the printer can understand, and then sends it to the printer.
Chapter 2 Getting Acquainted with the Printer Opening the printer driver There are two ways to open the printer driver. When you open the printer you open the printer driver from a software application.

The BJ Status Monitor checks the progress of the print job, monitors the level in ink in the ink tanks, informs you immediately after an error occurs and automatically presents solutions for the problem.

Confirming the ink level in the ink tanks To confirm the level of ink remaining in the ink tanks, open the BJ Status Monitor in the printer driver. 1 Open the printer driver, click the Maintenance tab, and click the Start Status Monitor button.
Chapter 3 Utility Programs Used with the Printer Driver What is the BJ Background Monitor? The BJ Background Monitor allows you to monitor and manage background printing. Background printing includes all print jobs queued and awaiting execution, as well as the current print job in progress.

When a print job starts, the BJ Background Monitor starts automatically and displays its icon on the taskbar. 1 Click the Canon BJ Background Monitor icon on the taskbar. 2 Check the print jobs queued for printing. Cancelling a print job You can cancel a print job queued for printing.

When you are using background printing, the BJ Backgrounder monitors the progress of the print data transfer from the computer to the printer. When a print job starts, the BJ Backgrounder opens automatically and displays the progress of the data transfer.

The BJ Printer Monitor is the software application used when more than one Canon Bubble Jet printer is connected to your system. The BJ Printer Monitor displays in a list format the name of the port, connection status, ink remaining, and other information of all the Bubble Jet printers.

Chapter 4 Using the Printer Driver Printing multiple pages on one sheet You can print two or four pages at reduced size on one sheet of paper. This printing method not only saves paper, it is also useful for printing double-page pictures or charts, and printing pages for binding.
Chapter 4 Using the Printer Driver Printing a colour document in greyscale Colour images can be printed with greyscale. Each colour is printed in gradations of grey with bright colours printed white and dark colours printed black. Chapter 4 Using the Printer Driver Rotating a document 90 degrees for Landscape printing A document can be rotated 90 degrees for printing. A wide document can be rotated 90 degrees and printed on paper loaded lengthways in the sheet feeder or manual feed slot.
Chapter 4 Using the Printer Driver Page ordered printing Follow this procedure to execute page ordered printing. Printing normally executes from the first page to the last, but you can reverse the page order and print from the last page to the first. If you are printing more than one copy of the same document, you can also collate the pages.

After cleaning the print head, if printing is still not normal check the ink tanks and make sure that they have sufficient ink. In one or more ink tanks are empty, replace them.
