4-2. Troubleshooting
Symptoms
[Sensor Adjustment for user (Transparent Sensor/Reflective Sensor)]
The following describes the transparent and reflective sensor adjustment method for user.
Note that this method is described in "Sensor Adjustments" of the User's Manual".
Preparation:
Transparent sensor:
1. Peel off labels from the liner.
2. Open the "SA Cover" and put the media so that it is located on the platen roller and
both "SA Adjust Sensor L" (reflective sensor) and "SA Adjust Sensor U" (transparent
sensor).
If the media has a black mark, keep away the black mark from both sensors.
3. Close the "SA Cover".
Reflective sensor:
1. Open the "SA Cover" and put the label media so that it is located on the platen roller
and the "SA Adjust Sensor L" (reflective sensor).
Keep away the black mark from the reflective sensor.
2. Close the "SA Cover".
Sensor Adjustment Procedure (in common):
1. Turn on the power while pressing and holding the [PAUSE], [FEED] and [STOP] keys.
2. Release the keys after the POWER LED lights in green and "Sensor Cal Mode See
Through" is displayed on the LCD.
To switch the LCD display between "See Through" and "Reflect", press and release
the [STOP] key while pressing and holding the [MENU] key.
Choose either one as required.
3. Press and release the [PAUSE] key while pressing and holding the [MENU] key.
"Sensor Cal Mode Executing" and then "Sensor Cal Mode Succeeded" will be
displayed on the LCD.

If adjustment stops abnormally (adjustment impossible), the POWER LED flashes
in red and "Failed" is displayed on the LCD.
4. Press the [STOP] key.
Then the printer turns OFF and then ON again, and enters the normal operation.

Checks
5. Is dust on the light emitter and
photodetector of the "SA Adjust Sensor
L"?
6. Failure in the "SA Adjust Sensor L".
7. Failure in the control circuit.
5. Clean the light emitter and
photodetector to remove dust.
6. Replace the "SA Adjust Sensor L".
7. Replace the "SA Main PCB".
